Export a calendar

Export takes what you are currently looking at, not the whole calendar. Whatever the window on screen covers is what lands in the file: this month, this week, or the four weeks the Away view covers. Change the period or the view first and you change the export.

Choose the download icon in the header, labelled Download .ics.

The file arrives as a standard .ics calendar, which every mainstream calendar application can open. Repeating events are exported as the occurrences that fall inside the window rather than as a rule.

Because the export follows the view, set the view up before you download:

  1. Pick the view whose range you want. Month exports a month; Week exports a week.
  2. Use ‹ and › to move to the period you need, or Today to come back.
  3. Check the count badge on the right of the filter row. It shows how many events the window holds, which is roughly what you are about to export.
  4. Choose Download .ics.

A very wide range is refused rather than cut short: past 5,000 events the export asks you to narrow it and try again. Exports are also rate limited, so repeated requests in quick succession are throttled.

An .ics download is a snapshot, not a subscription. It does not update when the calendar changes, and there is no feed URL to point another application at. Import the file again to refresh it.

Check the filters before you export, because the export follows the window rather than the filter pills. If you need only one type of event in the file, remove the rest after importing it. A filter pill does not change what is written.

For what each view’s window covers, see the views reference.
