Troubleshooting & FAQ
I cannot find the Documents module
Section titled “I cannot find the Documents module”Documents is listed under Content Modules in the service sidebar. If the service uses a custom module layout, look for the 📄 Documents Beta button.

The canvas is empty after I create a document
Section titled “The canvas is empty after I create a document”Some templates open with a single title heading and no body content. Click any Click to add content area or press / at an insertion point to start adding components.
A component I added is not saving
Section titled “A component I added is not saving”Make sure you are still signed in and have not hit a network rate limit. Press Ctrl+S to force a save. If the save fails, check the browser console for errors and reload the page.
My table of contents is not updating
Section titled “My table of contents is not updating”The Table of Contents component draws on Heading components and each component’s Nest level setting. If you typed a heading inside a Rich Text or Paragraph block, it will not appear in the outline. Add a dedicated Heading component instead.
The slash command does not open
Section titled “The slash command does not open”The slash command only works inside an active insertion point. Click the Click to add content area at the bottom of the canvas or between components, then type /. It does not work while editing a component’s inline text.
My component palette click did not add anything
Section titled “My component palette click did not add anything”Add components through the slash command or the component library. Clicking a component in the left panel may show only a preview tooltip. Type / and then the component name, or click the component and then the canvas insertion point if the app supports drag insertion.
Export is missing a component
Section titled “Export is missing a component”The export leaves out hidden or collapsed components, so make sure the component is visible on the canvas. Exports honor component-level style overrides, but some complex science or math components may render differently in Word or Markdown than in PDF.
I deleted a component by accident
Section titled “I deleted a component by accident”Use Ctrl+Z to undo the deletion. If you already saved, open Version History and restore a checkpoint from before the deletion.
I cannot restore an older version
Section titled “I cannot restore an older version”Only saved checkpoints and published versions appear in Version History. An auto-save that you never saved as a version may not be possible to restore. Save often with Ctrl+S, and publish a milestone before major edits.
Clicking a variable does not insert its token
Section titled “Clicking a variable does not insert its token”Focus a compatible text field on the canvas or in Properties before clicking the variable. Token insertion works with text-like inputs, text areas, and rich-text areas; it does not insert into checkboxes, select menus, number controls, or uploads. You can also drag the variable directly into a compatible field.
My saved template does not show inputs in Automation
Section titled “My saved template does not show inputs in Automation”Open Actions > Save as Template again and make sure Include input variables is enabled. Excluding definitions does not remove tokens from the content, but Generate Document cannot display named binding fields for them.
Renaming a variable left the old token in the document
Section titled “Renaming a variable left the old token in the document”Renaming changes the definition only. Replace each old {{variable_name}} token in the document and update workflows that map the old key.
