Projects troubleshooting and FAQ

Progress is stuck at 0% although work is happening

Section titled “Progress is stuck at 0% although work is happening”

Progress comes from tasks on linked task boards, not from anything typed on the project. Open Tasks and link or create a board. See Link task boards.

The timeline says there is nothing to display

Section titled “The timeline says there is nothing to display”

The same cause. The timeline draws task bars from linked boards; with no board it shows “Create a task board and add tasks to see them on the timeline”. Milestones alone will not populate it.

Its empty state lists five conditions, and all of them must hold: a linked board, tasks on it, Advanced Mode turned on in board settings, Estimated Hours set on the tasks, and time logged on individual cards. Advanced Mode is the step most often missed, because without it the time fields are not on the card at all.

Earned Value, Workload, or Dependencies is missing from the navigation

Section titled “Earned Value, Workload, or Dependencies is missing from the navigation”

All three are switched off on every new project. Turn them on in Project Settings → Features.

The schedule tile says the schedule is not configured

Section titled “The schedule tile says the schedule is not configured”

Set both Start Date and Target End Date in Project Settings → Schedule. One date is not enough.

The header shows At_risk instead of At Risk

Section titled “The header shows At_risk instead of At Risk”

The project header prints the stored health value rather than its label. The project list shows the proper label for the same project. It is a display fault, not a data problem.

Somebody is on the project team and nobody added them

Section titled “Somebody is on the project team and nobody added them”

Assigning a person to a task on a linked board adds them to the project team at 50% and creates a resource for them if they had none. Sync from Tasks does the same in bulk. See Allocation and utilisation.

It is the sum of active allocation percentages across every project, so a few automatic 50% allocations add up quickly. Open the person’s allocations and end or narrow the ones that are no longer real. Utilisation ignores recorded capacity entirely.

A resource is on leave but still shows as available

Section titled “A resource is on leave but still shows as available”

Team Calendar absences do not affect Projects or Resources at all. Nothing reduces availability, lowers utilisation, or warns when you allocate somebody across their leave. Adjust the allocation dates yourself.

The four tiles and the count beside the heading always describe the whole pool. The search and role filters only narrow the list below them.

Project export is currently broken from every entry point, with the message “Failed to export project: Failed to get project”. Bulk archive, bulk status change, bulk assign, and the CSV template download fail for the same underlying reason. Use the report pack in Reports instead until this is fixed.

The project’s Resources section shows + Add Member, Sync from Tasks, and the row controls regardless of permission, and the server refuses the action. Editing a project team requires Editor access. See the permissions reference.

A required field is blocking a risk or issue nobody recognises

Section titled “A required field is blocking a risk or issue nobody recognises”

Custom fields are defined per service and apply to every project in it. One marked required must be completed before the entity can be saved, including on projects unrelated to why it was added. Check Project Settings → Custom Fields.

Removing from the project team has no confirmation step, unlike deactivating a resource. Re-add the person and set their allocation again; the previous allocation is not recoverable.
