Design panel with typography presets and base typography controls

The Typography Presets section offers three starting points:

  • Professional is clean and formal, which suits business and requirements documents.
  • Modern uses contemporary sans-serif lines that suit product and design briefs.
  • Classic keeps traditional proportions for formal reports and proposals.

Pick a preset, then fine-tune the font family, base size, and line height under Base Typography. The preview updates live on the canvas.

The Paper Theme section controls the canvas background, margins, page shadows, and structural options. Switch between themes to see how the document will look when exported or printed.

Use the Layout category in the left Components panel to insert Page Break or Section Break. Both are available in every document type. You can also find them by name in the slash command menu at an insertion point.

Breaks appear as selectable markers between components. They occupy the full document width and end any partly filled row of columns. To place a break inside a Rich Text block, first divide the content into separate components and insert the break between them.

A Page Break starts the following component on a new page using the current section’s paper size and orientation. Its position is its only setting.

Content before the break continues to paginate automatically as it grows. For example, if that content expands from one page to two, the component after the break starts on page three. The break remains after its preceding content.

Every explicit break is preserved. Consecutive breaks create blank pages, and a break at the beginning or end can create an empty first or last page. Delete an unwanted break to remove its page advance.

A Section Break sets the layout for all following components until the next Section Break. Select its marker on the canvas or in the outline to open its settings in the Properties panel.

Choose Break type to control where the new section starts:

Break type Result
Next Page Starts on the following page. This is the default.
Continuous Starts at the current position when the dimensions match. Changing paper size or orientation starts a new page; the properties panel explains this behavior.
Odd Page Starts on the next odd-numbered page, adding a blank page when needed.
Even Page Starts on the next even-numbered page, adding a blank page when needed.

Odd and even refer to physical page positions starting at 1, including blank pages. A blank page inserted for odd/even placement uses the preceding section’s dimensions. Page numbering continues across section breaks.

Choose Page layout to control the section’s dimensions:

Page layout Result
Continue previous layout Inherits the preceding section’s current settings. This is the default, and follows later changes to that preceding layout.
Use document layout Uses the document’s current default dimensions.
Custom layout Shows Paper size and Orientation. Choose Theme, A4, Letter or Legal, then Portrait or Landscape.

Theme uses the current document paper theme’s dimensions. Paper theme, margins, typography defaults, headers and footers remain document-wide. Section Breaks change size and orientation; component-level style overrides can change typography for an individual block.

For a portrait report with a wide table:

  1. Insert a Section Break immediately before the table and select its marker.
  2. In Properties, leave Break type as Next Page.
  3. Set Page layout to Custom layout, choose A4 under Paper size, and choose Landscape under Orientation.
  4. Insert another Section Break after the table, using Next Page and Use document layout, to return to the report’s default portrait layout.

These settings belong to the content between the breaks. If the table grows beyond one page, the whole section stays landscape until the second break.

Move, duplicate, delete, undo and restore breaks like other components. Deleting a Section Break merges its following content into the preceding layout; later sections with their own custom settings keep those settings.

Markers appear in the editor and authoring outline. They have no ordinary title, nesting or column-width settings, and are excluded from heading numbering, the table of contents and reader navigation.

Page views show the resulting pages, including intentional blank pages. The editor labels empty pages; that explanatory label is excluded from exports. Scrolling readers hide the break markers and unused page space while keeping the content in order.

PDF and Word exports preserve page and section breaks and mixed dimensions. Word uses native section breaks, but may repaginate after font changes or further editing. Markdown omits layout controls. Saved documents, templates and version snapshots retain break settings.

Set a running header and footer for printed or exported output. Use static text or dynamic placeholders such as document title, page number, and version.

If your service has a Brand module kit, you can apply its colors and typography to the document. This keeps exported PDFs and Word documents aligned with service-level brand rules.

Select a component and open Style Overrides in the right panel to change the document typography for that block only. Use it for a cover page, an appendix, or a section that needs a different font treatment.
